Pyrls Drug Information Database Information Demonstration
Derek: [00:00:02] Hey everyone, my name is Derek, and in this video, I’m going to give you a brief platform overview of Pyrls, which is a new drug information resource available for in-network providers of Aetna Better Health of Texas.
[00:00:14] So, first what is Pyrls? So, Pyrls is a drug information database, and it’s accessible via our website, or mobile app which you can access through the Availity portal in the resources section. So, Pyrls provides clinicians and trainees with curative evidence-based information on medications to help guide them in their practice and continuing education.
[00:00:36] Some key platform features of Pyrls include a library of over 800 clinical drug summaries, pharmacotherapy charts, reviews, tables, and calculators, summaries of key patient counseling points, and clinical review summaries. A drug interactions detection tool, and the entire American Hospital Formulary Service Drug Information Compendia.
[00:00:57] So, with that I want to give you a walkthrough of the platform itself. So, here we’re looking at the homepage of the Pyrls web portal, which again, you can access through your Availity platform. And then, to access the mobile app, you can click this button here, and view instructions for how you can activate your mobile app account.
[00:01:15] So, again, we’re looking at the homepage of Pyrls here, and the next thing I want to go through in this video is just walking you through a few of our key platform features, and resources, that we think you’ll find most valuable. So, the first thing I’m going to walk through is our clinical drug summaries themselves. So, here I’m looking up a medication in our database, and you can see how we lay out a lot of the information about these medications, in really simple summaries to help you with the most practice-ready information. Like first, the key general information like brand names, FDA indications, pharmacology, dosage forms, federal regulatory status.
[00:01:48] And as with most of the pages, you can click on individual points and view references where information is coming from. Next, one of the best parts of Pyrls drug summaries is how we make key information you need in your practice, like key patient counseling points, easily accessible, and curated for you to utilize and digest. And if you want to click on these, each of them, you can view more about why this counseling point is, and again, you can go to reference to see where this came from, to dig in even deeper on a subject.
[00:02:19] We also have key dosing information, FDA-approved dosing information on the drug summaries laid out for you in a really easily digestible format. The next kind of key point of a Pyrls drug summary is our key clinical points. So, whereas the key counseling points were where we curated key information you could consider counseling on, the clinical points is key curated information to help you determine if therapy is appropriate for a situation, as you’re educating yourself on the use of this medication.
[00:02:45] So, here, for example, we have a place in therapy summary where here, we summarized what the latest guidelines in this area say about what place in therapy this medication, where it comes in, first line, second line, etc., again based upon the latest guidelines. And other key information as it relates to clinical assessment of this medication. We also have key safety information like contraindications, box warnings, and warnings, and other key information that comes from the FDA, and other sources. So, those are our drug summaries.
[00:03:17] We also have a full library of various charts, tables, and different other reviews. So, I’m just going to go back to the drug page here, because you can actually see that we have attached to the resources section here, some charts and tables that are most relevant, and pertinent to this medication, since they are related in class. So, these resources can be accessed from the drug pages, or from the search bar, or the browsing menu of these various resources themselves.
[00:03:45] Back on our homepage, the next sort of key piece of content that I want to walk you through, that we think you’ll find very useful in your practice is our pharmacotherapy reviews. So, here, for a whole variety of topics, we have built out pharmacotherapy charts and reviews to help you quickly get yourself up to speed on a topic, and understand the latest guideline-based recommendations on these areas.
[00:04:07] So, let me click into our diabetes review to show an example. So, our pharmacotherapy reviews are designed to be quick summaries of key information needed for getting yourself up to speed on what the latest guidelines say about given topics. So, for example, you can read a summary of what’s new in the 2024 guidelines. Quickly review other key topline subjects on the topic, and then, actually, each of our therapy reviews also comes with a chart.
[00:04:33] And so, charts is one of the big points I want to highlight in the Pyrls platform. We have dozens, and dozens, and dozens, of charts that cover different therapeutic areas, like this, walking you through an easy, visually appealing, flowchart of the guidelines. So, we have this for a number of conditions. I’ll just click through a few here of our pharmacotherapy charts, in asthma, COPD, diabetes, hypertension. So many other chronic, and other conditions. So, these charts can be downloaded after you view them in Pyrls, as well as printed out, used however you need.
[00:05:10] And then, we also have product charts as well, not just pharmacotherapy charts. So, this was always linked on our asthma and COPD pages, but we have an inhaler products chart that you can download, print out, utilize to – with all the latest information on the inhalers available on the market. Similarly, we have these product charts for other medication classes, insulin products, and more.
[00:05:41] And then, yeah, one of the last resources I want to highlight for you on the main page is that we also have a number of different other helpful widgets and resources. So, being here, like our guidelines database. So, you may want to look up, hey, is there a guideline for this subject? Here we make it really easy and accessible to find links out to practice guidelines for – we have over 300 links out to different practice guidelines that you may find helpful. And we keep this maintained.
[00:06:07] So, with that, that’s a quick overview of the Pyrls platform. And again, you can access this through your resources section in your Availity portal. Thank you.
[00:06:18] [End of tape]
