Getting health care, no matter where you are

By Shaan Trotter - Health Equity Officer

Access to health care is a priority at Aetna Better Health® of Illinois. Connecting with your doctor and our health plan is key to keeping you healthy no matter where you live. For members who live in rural communities, resources are available to improve access to health care so that you get the care you need. Consider these services to support your health care journey.

Find a provider near you: Visit the Find a Provider page on our website to find a doctor near your home. This directory lists primary, specialty, vision, dental and pharmacy providers close by. It also helps locate facilities near you. Maybe you’re helping an elderly family member or friend. The directory lists support providers, like adult day services, assisted living, meal delivery and more. Access is only a click away.

The ride is on us: Individuals who live in rural areas sometimes travel far to get care. Don’t let travel be a barrier to getting health care. ModivCare offers free transportation to doctor visits and to the pharmacy right after your appointment. Call Member Services to schedule a ride at least two business days in advance. You can also schedule return trips. Call 1-866-913-1265 and choose “Ride Assist” to schedule. And, you don’t have to go by yourself. Bring up to two guests.

Get reimbursed for mileage: For those who are driving to the doctor, ModivCare offers a Mileage Reimbursement Program. Call them before your visit to make the request. You’ll need to fill out a form and take it with you to your appointment. Visit the ModivCare website for more information on the process.

Connect with support nearby: Use the Community Resources Directory tool to find services near you. Login to your Member Portal to find support and services near you. From food and housing services to wellness and mental health support and more.

Get help from your home: You don’t have to leave your home to get help. There are telehealth and free life resources available if you can’t visit your doctor. Use the MyOwnDoctor app to connect with a doctor online. The app also helps find food, rental and employment assistance, among other support.

Count on us: No one should feel like they can’t access care because of where they live. Call Member Services at 1-866-329-4701 (TTY:711) Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM to learn more about resources available to you. The more you know, the better prepared you are to get the best care possible.
